Loom Knit Sock Boots – Pattern and Video

Easy Loom Knit Sock Boots

Sock Boots

Turn any shoe into a nice warm boot with the help of your small loom and chunky wool blend yarn to make yourself a pair of sock boots. This design is thinner in the foot area to fit into your basic shoe and chunkier around the legs to keep you nice and toasty.

The pattern below is meant to work more as a guide then an actual pattern. To make it perfectly custom sized for you or your loved one you will need to do some VERY simple math. The formula is below in the pattern notes. Other then that this is an easy project especially because you can follow the step by step instructions on the video tutorial.

Supplies

.

Loom: Small loom with a 5-6 inch diameter. I used a 24-peg Knifty Knitter

Yarn:  210 Yards of Any chunky or bulky, wool or nylon blend yarn. I used Bernat Viva in Black for the featured picture and for the Sock Boots YouTube video I used the Lion Bran Yarn, Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in Color # 402 Wheat

Hook: Any loom knitting hook. I used the Knifty Knitter with a Rubber Grip

Needle: Any large yarn needle. I used a Susan Bates

Stitch Markers: Any method. I used Rainbow Loom rubber bands

Counter: Any method including just Paper and Pencil will work. I used a manual tally

Pattern Notes:

The pattern below is meant to be more of a guide then an exact pattern. It fits an individual that is a size 6 in shoes and 5’0” in height. You will need to do some math to custom size your sock boot if your measurements are different.

Stitches: To make this pattern work it is VERY important that you understand the difference between the 2 versions of the knit stitches

U-wrap Knit, e-Wrap Knit, Purl . For a Post with Video on the Knit Variations: Click HERE

Gauge: 4 stitches per inch with e-Wrap and 5 stitches per inch with U-wrap.

Do the Math for a Custom Fit

Sock Boots

For the Leg measure from the bottom of the knee to the top of the ankle.
Knit 4 e-Wrap knit stitches per desired inch.

For the Foot measure from the back of the heel to the tip of the big toe.
Subtract 1 inch from your total. Knit 5 rows of U-wrap stitches per desired inch.

Now Let’s Start The Sock Boot Pattern

Cast on:

Wrap all pegs. U-wrap knit all pegs.

Cuff:

Knit 1, Purl 1 (10 Rows using the U-wrap version of knit stitch)

Leg: Number of rows depends on your custom measurements. See the notes above.

Knit 4 Rows of e-Wrap Knit Stitch per desired inch (I did 36 Rows)

Ankle: Number of rows depends on your custom measurements. See the notes above.

Knit 5 Rows of the U-wrap Knit Stitch per desired inch (I did 10 Rows)

Heel Note : Same number of pegs and rows for all sizes

For the Heel you will be knitting flat – Only using 12 pegs on the right side of your loom

Heel Decrease
Starting with peg 1

Knit 11 pegs then Wrap and Turn on peg 12
Knit 10 pegs then Wrap and Turn on peg 1
Knit 9 pegs then Wrap and Turn on peg 11
Knit 8 pegs then Wrap and Turn on peg 2
Knit 7 pegs then Wrap and Turn on peg 10
Knit 6 pegs then Wrap and Turn on peg 3
Knit 5 pegs then Wrap and Turn on peg 9
Knit 4 pegs then Wrap and Turn on peg 4

Heel Increase
Starting with peg 5

Knit 4 pegs, K2tog then Wrap and Turn on peg 10
Knit 5 pegs, K2tog then Wrap and Turn on peg 3
Knit 6 pegs, K3tog then Wrap and Turn on peg 11
Knit 7 pegs, K3tog then Wrap and Turn on peg 2
Knit 8 pegs, K3tog then Wrap and Turn on peg 12
Knit 9 pegs, K3tog then Wrap and Turn on peg 1
Knit 10 pegs, K3tog, from the inside of the loom Pick up the top loop up from peg 13, place it on peg 12 then Wrap and Turn on peg 13
Knit 11 pegs, K3tog, from the inside of the loom Pick up the top loop up from peg 24, place it on peg 1 then Wrap and Turn on peg 24.

Foot : Number of rows depends on your custom measurements. See the notes above.

Knit 5 Rows of the U-wrap Knit Stitch per desired inch (I did 36 Rows)

Toe:

The pattern for the toe is identical to the heel. See the instructions above. End with 1 row of the U-wrap knit stitch.

Close the Toe:

To close the toe feed the working yarn through each peg going side to side instead of in the round

Clean up:

Weave in the Ends

Tighten Loose Loops – mildly because you need the sock cuff to have stretch.

As always I recommend watching the video completely before starting you sock boots. It will make the project a lot easier, I promise. Remember that the pattern here is more of a guide – so is the video. The exact number of rows needed will depend on the math. See the formula breakdown above in the pattern notes.

Thanks for all the great videos and patterns. They are just great. And as everyone has said, very easy to follow.

In regards to this new sock pattern. Any recommendations if you are looming for someone that has a larger foot and wider calf. Is there a way of measuring the calf and determining what # of pegs would work best? Many Thanks,

No – but you could use the 31-peg instead of the 24-peg
