Life Like Dolls – aka Reborn Babies – Meet My New Models

Life Like Dolls, the Beautiful, the Ugly and Mine

Life Like Dolls

I entered the words “Life Like Dolls” in a Google image search because I needed a model for my knitted baby items and couldn’t find a friend or family member with one young enough to fit my hats and cocoons. The results were so amazing they were scary. These dolls, also known as Reborn Dolls looked nothing like what I thought. Forget Barbie, American Girl and the Bratz these should be on someones Christmas list this year.Like Like Doll

Take a close look at the hair, the skin tone and wrinkles on the hands and feet, it’s just unbelievable. These babies are not your daughter’s old toys. These are Real life baby dolls for big girls.

I have to warn you that some were just adorable but others were shockingly disturbing. There is a market for Crawling (the can’t walk yet) Dead Babies. Go figure.

Non-the-less, I bought the one in the picture above , Hush Little Baby and another that sits up like a toddler, Sweet Princess . She is the picture to the right.

Let me detail my experience for you …

Baby in a Box

Life Like Dolls Upon arrival the first thing you notice is the unremarkable outer box. Other than the hundred little logos and the words Ashton-Drake it’s just a regular old brown shipping box. Nothing special to look at. I was concerned about what I actually got. But inside snug tightly was a very stylish storage box. That put a big smile on my face. Then I opened the box and to my surprise was what I saw was a real beauty tucked-in nicely.

Life Like Dolls are a bit expense so I was happy to see that the shipping package was so well constructed and the “Baby” was well protected from any bumpy ride. She is made of vinyl so the odds that she would come in pieces was zero to none. Real or not real, like any good Mommy I worried for no reason.  The thought almost creep-ed me out. Not to mention that she arrived to my office on a day that I was all alone. I can’t even explain why but I was too scared to leave her close by. I took her to the storage room and closed the door until the end of the day when it was time to go home. She has been in that box for a while now. I figured it was time to get her out and put her to earn what I paid for her.

I’M VERY HAPPY WITH MY 2 DOLLIES- Now Help Me Give Them Names 🙂

Some are Extremely Real Looking:

Life Like Dolls

Some look so much like a real baby is hard to know if your eyes are blurring and you just think that you’re looking at a doll. For these you have to be willing to spend the BIG Dollars. Most of these beauties were found on eBay some are from Babies 2 Dolls which are kits. Linda Moore walks you through the process of making your own Life Like Doll.

Some Life Like Dolls are Disturbing

Life Like Dolls

Some are not so cute. They are made to look evil, borderline nightmarish. I know there is a market for these. Personally speaking these are NOT my taste for baby dolls. I prefer the word sweet over demonic when I think about my Life Like Dolls but that’s just me. I’m a I Real Life Softy.

Of all the creepy ones I can’t explain why the Wolf-man babyLife Like Dolls was the one that disturbed me the most. Maybe because there were more pictures of him through out the internet or because he looked old and tired. I almost wanted to tell him not to worry that I would pray for him. Then I figured it out, it was the outfit that had me. He’s dressed in a really cute pair of overalls that match his sideburns and the shade of his eyes perfectly. Still he evokes sadness in me. Just weird or is it just me?

Others are a Kinda Ugly Cute

You can also choose a baby monkey which is both cute and ugly. Just if you don’t know which way to go. I big time have mixed feelings about this group. I’m leaning more towards the Ah No Not Really.

So do you need a Darwinian mentality to be into the whole monkey with the baby outfit thing?

Anywhoo …

Where Can You Buy One?

Life Like Dolls

I bought my dolls from TheBradfordExchange.com ( NOT the best price – I didn’t know )

Life Like DollsYou can do better price wise and for a larger choice by searching  Amazon and my favorite on-line store for this particular item, eBay cause you can get some really crazy deals and the listing is HUGE. Last time I checked there were 10k for Reborn Dolls . No one else has that kind of volume. Your budget is the limit. Bids start at $.99 – Buy it Now for $5,600.00. I paid about $140.00 with shipping and I’m quite happy with my, Ashton-Drake, “Hush Little Baby” and the Sweet Princess life-like dolls.

Stay Tuned to See Her in New Hats and Outfits soon. By-the-way, my budget is limited so she will double as a he. Act like you didn’t know that.

I give it 5 Stars because I can’t find anything wrong with it.

Hey Angel – it depends on the purpose for your baby doll – display or practical. In my case I needed a baby with a newborn sized head and a toddler. That was how I chose my doll size

Denise, I remember seeing a British TV show a few years ago about people who buy these dolls then treat them like real children. I thought that was weird enough until I saw the creepy ones you came across! Yikes!! And a big no to the monkey babies!!

I think your little one looks like either Eloise or Grace, but Becky is nice too. She is a sweetie. Not sure about her sister. Those gray eyes deserve a special name!

Thanks again for your website-you always manage to make me smile!!

Love your new baby doll model. Glad you chose a pretty baby vs a scary one.

    • Denise Canela July 18, 2015 at 9:14 am

LOL … me toooooo. Wouldn’t be able to live with it. 🙂

  4. Patricia July 17, 2015 at 11:44 pm

Hi! I love your web site and have made many things from your tutorials! Right now I’m trying to make the comfort dolls for donating but other projects for friends and family slow me down! lol I love the look of your Reborn Babies. I think the one at the top should be called Angela or Angelina because she looks like an angel. The other one looks like a Becky to me! 🙂 Those blue eyes really catch your attention! Any way, thank you for your website and videos, you’ve made my transition from a crocheter to a loomer a lot easier!

    • Denise Canela July 18, 2015 at 9:17 am

Thank you Patricia, I’m with you on the names – Love them both. Becky always sounds like fun to me. I immediately think of a valley girl. Even though here in Florida we don’t have any hills we do have Valley Girls. 🙂

  5. Susan Acevedo July 17, 2015 at 11:02 am

Cute baby. Lot of money. Hope you give her lots of love. I would name her Chrissie. Full name Christina.

  6. Cris Horvath July 17, 2015 at 9:28 am

They can also be called “Reborn” dolls. I purchased one for my daughter when she was 7, they are quite expensive for a really good one. Generally they take an old doll (they do look for a particular make) and then re-do the hair, skin tone, etc.

  7. Peggy Overbey July 17, 2015 at 12:32 am

I want one of these dolls!

  8. Olivia July 17, 2015 at 12:22 am

Can you give us sizes for the head? I am making preemie hats and could use some help

    • Denise Canela July 17, 2015 at 7:36 am

The ones I have on hand will be used to model babies 9 mos – 1 year. They won’t work for preemies
