Pom Pom Scarf on a Small Loom

Pom Pom Scarf on a Small Round LoomPom Pom Scarf

The Pom Pom scarf pattern is beginner simple. I just love this very fluffy creation. It wins my So Super Cute seal of approval. This very unique design is by Judith S. Her blog is Ju DIYth but I found the some-what pattern on the

CutandKeep.net website. Although the texture makes the scarf look complex the only stitch you need to know is the e-wrap. What really makes this scarf so beautiful is the yarn. It’s called pom-pom yarn and although it’s normally used to make baby knit wear the fun design is for anyone.

The Technique to Loom Knit the Pom Pom Scarf

Pom Pom ScarfThere are several brands that have their own version of the yarn.  Spinrite has their Baby Pom Pom, Red Heart has their Pomp- a- Doodle. For her loom knit Pom Pom Scarf Judy used the Bunny Tail Loops & Threads brand by Micheal’s.

As you can see there is like a short string between each tiny pom-pom. She was smart enough to know the best technique to use on a loom knitting project with this very cool yarn was to skip every other peg which leaves the pom pom cradled in-between the pegs. And what you knit is the string and not the pom-pom. This technique is also what gives you that striped bumpy loom look. Apparently the intent was not to do anything special but I would say that is exactly what Judith has done. I think this scarf has fun written all over. Can you picture the matching hat ? Where’s my jar of pixie dust cause this calls for some kiddy magic.

Which Loom Size ?

Pom Pom Scarf Pattern

She also doesn’t give you the exact loom to use that she used for the pattern. She says “small loom”.  In case there is any doubt …

I would use the 24-peg large gauge small round loom I think anything larger or smaller would not be the design we see in the picture.

The Knifty Knitter is usually my brand of choice but you can use any small loom. I would NOT recommend using the Boye. This yarn is tricky for loom knitting. Of course, if you already have one – then give it a whirl.

Above is a link to the some-what pattern. It is more like instructions. Note that she never really tells you how to close the ends – well you don’t need to. You can sew the ends together and then place you Big Pom Pom where the seam is so that it is not noticeable.

Hello, I just read your article after buying the Pom-pa-doodle yarn and not knowing what to do with it! I have a boye loom and the trick is (after playing with it) to put the pompoms in between the pegs so that you have the little spacers around the peg only. It takes a little bit of time but it helps to keep the tension down.
