The Yarn : 2 Skeins of Red Heart Soft

Yarn Giveaway February 2014

I used Red Heart Soft  for the first time in December 2013. I had not tried it before because I thought it couldn’t be that “Soft”. I saw the reasonable price of the yarn as an indicator that I wasn’t going to get something I would be happy with, until got my hands on the yarn. I needed yarn for this contest and a hat pattrn  Amazon Primeincluded the Red Heart Soft  in my Free 2-Day shipping so I went for it. Now that it’s here and I got it up close in my hands it’s going to be really hard to let it go. It is SUPER SOFT and the jewel tones are rich.

  2. Linda Jones March 29, 2014 at 12:18 pm

Received my February Win package!! Wonderful! The red yarn is truly an amazing color of red and so soft! I will be looking for a pattern that will be perfect for this yarn color. I love Red Heart! It is exciting to think about using this yarn. I’ve been away from all my looming, needlework and crafts for the past few years due to family matters and everyday happingings. I’ve really missed my hobbies.. As soon as I finish all related to moving my mom in with us and taking care of her house, my looms will be smoking with non-stop projects, LOL! Can’t wait!
The Gloss Box that was included had excellent products included. And I know what Denise gave up to include it in the winning package.
Thank you so much Denise!! I love your blog and thank you for the opportunity to win this yarn! New yarn makes me do happy dances And what a better way to get back onto the looming world than to start here? You do so many wonderfully nice things. Keep up your good works.
    New follower an fan here!

  3. DaFox February 27, 2014 at 2:06 pm

I am new to your website. I found you via youtube. I’ve been enjoying your videos and love the way you explain everything so clearly. Your voice sounds familiar. Did you have another channel on Youtube that taught some looming? I am new to looming, but you make things simple. Thanks!

    • Denise Canela February 28, 2014 at 8:40 am

Hi DaFox, yes I started on another channel – but wanted to focus on this one subject so I started the LoomaHat YouTube Channel. So glad I could be of help to you. Stay with me there’s a lot more learning out there for me and you. 🙂

      • DaFox February 28, 2014 at 1:22 pm

Thanks! Glad to know. My first project I made was doing it step by step with you! Really appreciated how you did it as it helped me to understand it so clearly. I am interested in how you made the basket-weave looking hat you show on the knit and pearl demo. Is there a written pattern somewhere or did you just alternate a set number of knit and pearl on each row? I would love to make something like that for my nephew. Thanks!

        • Denise Canela March 2, 2014 at 12:21 am

Hi DaFox, here is a link to a hat pattern using the Basketweave stitch. I would say that to make it more of a male version – make the brim a short garter stitch like maybe no more then 4 rows and use the u-wrap knit stitch. Good idea to read the comments some folks will ask some of the questions you might think of.
Also the garter stitch is 1 row of knit and 1 row of purl.
          Hope that helps.

          • DaFox March 2, 2014 at 1:06 am

Thanks so much. I don’t know how I missed that. I even went looking! I appreciate you linking me there. I will be sure to give that a try. I am almost finished with the little purse. I decided to experiment with some stitches and I wrote down what I did. I would change a few things now, but I still think it turned out cute. It also gave me another idea for a project, so you’ve quite inspired me! I would be happy to send you a picture when it’s finished, but I’m not quite sure how to do that on here. I can always send it via email if you like. Thanks again. I’m really enjoying your site! -Fox

            • Denise Canela March 2, 2014 at 9:33 am

Yes would love for you to email me pictures. Let me know if I can post them here. It’s great to share. Here is my email denise@loomahat.com

I will be happy to email you some pictures when I complete it and you are welcome to post them if you’d like.

  5. Shawna Powell February 26, 2014 at 10:01 am

I love this site. I am new to knitting, crocheting and looming. I have found that it is rather hard to find sites that explain things in a way that a beginner like me can understand. You do a wonderful job! Thank you for all your hard work!

    • Denise Canela February 27, 2014 at 9:35 pm

Thank YOU Shawna for your kind words. I GREATLY appreciate them.

  6. Diana February 24, 2014 at 7:40 am

I have knitted/crocheted for years but I’m new to looming so glad to find your site. Thank you for the free patterns and information! I bought a loom and wanted to try it to make items for Special Olympics with it like the headbands, hats and scarves I’ve been making.

    • Denise Canela February 25, 2014 at 9:11 pm

Would love to find out more information about knitting for the Special Olympics. Going to do some research – any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

      • Diana February 25, 2014 at 11:30 pm

You can find out more about the Special Olympics Scarf Program on Facebook by going to page: Knit and Crochet for a Cause.

        • Denise Canela February 26, 2014 at 2:45 pm

          Thank you Diana !

        • Shawna Powell February 27, 2014 at 2:04 pm

I seen where you posted about the Knit/ Crochet for a cause for the SO. I love the idea and LIKED them on FB. I am a little slow to make scarves, but hope to get faster and maybe donate in the future. Anyway, this made me think.. I wonder if they have a page for donating hats for cancer. That is how I found this.. https://www.facebook.com/HatsOffForCancerOrg or http://hatsoffforcancer.org/. You can donate hats or all styles, genders, colors and sizes to children with cancer. I thought that was a super neat idea. I can loom a hat in only a night or two, so I am seriously thinking about make SEVERAL and donating them. I thought I would share for anyone else who might be interested. 🙂

          • DaFox March 2, 2014 at 1:01 am

            Hi Shawna,

You might also check your local cancer treatment clinics. I know that when my Mom and Grandpa were going through chemo, they had some knitted hats people made to give out. Even in summer, during chemo, it can be quite cold to cancer patients and if you’ve lost your hair, the hats sure help. So you might want to just call your local oncology center and see if they take hat donations. You might even be able to bring them and hand them out yourself. You’d be surprised at how little things like this can cheer up people going through cancer treatments. I am sure they would really appreciate any help you can give!

  30. Teresa February 5, 2014 at 1:25 pm

I’m thinking that I want to get rid of all the yarn I have that I probably won’t use and start to be a little more choosy when I start to knit or crochet something.

    • Denise Canela February 6, 2014 at 10:58 pm

Instead of giving away the yarn – knit some hats and check out the Charity Page for some places that need them. 🙂

I started loom knitting about 3 weeks ago. I have made 5 hats, 2 scarves, and an afghan panel in the wrong stitch pattern, but I am so truly enjoying this craft that I don’t care about the afghan panel. I’ll try again soon.

    • Denise Canela February 1, 2014 at 11:36 pm

Hi again Jenni, so nice to see you. Hope you’re done with all the moving and stuff. That can such a bummer. I have to think yes since you have finished 5 hats, 2 scarves and a unique afghan (I call it that because there is no such thing as a wrong stitch pattern).
