Double Moss Stitch for Circular and Flat Panel

This beautiful stitch has a very simple pattern. The only skills needed are knit and purl. I really started loom knitting with it when I was trying to write a pattern for a Lapghan for Veterans Day. There were specific characteristics that I needed from the stitch that I would be using for a wheel chair blanket. It should look good on both sides, be simple, be warm without being heavy or stiff. I wanted to be sure that it would hide any knitting mistakes nicely, since I get distracted and can miss a stitch. The Double Moss Stitch had a check mark next to every requirement. It was perfect for my project.

Because of the bumpy striped nature of the stitch I also like it a lot for a dish cloth that will be used for scrubbing and a simple exfoliating wash cloth. Just remember to use cotton yarn for those types of knitting projects. Naturally, I also like it for hats and scarves.

Glow in the Dark Yarn

Glow in The Dark Yarn

This yarn is way-way-way too cool. I wasn’t even aware the it existed but I can only imagine the amount of uses I have for this specialty. I’m no baby but I would so love some kind of gear made with Glow in The Dark Yarn.

I saw this on a loom knit sweater by Gregory Huff on his blogspot website LoomDude. The post is actually from 2012 and I know I must have seen it before, with all the times that I have visited that website but I had not noticed this until now. For those that like to make their own costumes I think this is awesome. Even to make the kids their own trick or treat bags.

And by the way, there’s also Glow in the Dark Thread , Glow in the Dark Beads and Glow in the Dark Rubber Bands ! Good grief Gregory has created a monster.

Some thick or textured yarns like Lions Brands Homespun Thick and Quick or the all-time favorite baby yarn, Pipsqueak make it difficult to thread a yarn needle. Here is a cool, simple tip with pictures and a 33 second video. It was sent to me by one of my awesome blog readers who watched a video I created for a 10-year old friend that wanted to teach her classmates how to loom knit for charity. At the very bottom of the post is that video – the last few minutes show the funny needle threading episode. Caution: some folks don’t find the humor in it, some were even offended. That one I really don’t get. To bad for them they missed the point. 🙂

Free Loom Knit Newborn Hat Pattern for Baby Boys

All newborns are babies but not all babies are newborns. Make sense? Well, I say that because this is a loom knit newborn hat pattern for a tiny baby that is less then a month old. To be more exact I would say no more than a week or two depending on the baby. This is not going to fit the average 2 or 3 month old unless the baby is a preemie. So the purpose of this little hat is for the parents to bundle-up their new little man warmly to take him home from the hospital. To increase the size of the hat for a bigger baby use the medium 31-peg loom and use the size chart below.

I made this pattern specifically for a boy because I wanted to give it to The Period of Purple Crying. It’s an organization that is focused on helping to educate people on Shaken Baby Syndrome. According to their ClickforBabies.org website, which is their resource page for knitters they don’t get enough baby boy caps. By the way, this is true for most charities. We knitters prefer making girly stuff. So this is my small attempt at leveling the knitting field. To meet their guideline specifications you just need to change the color of the hat to purple and remove the button. There shouldn’t be any attachments on the hat. If you like the contrasting color in the middle of the cable you can also embroider a mock button in its place. A circular piece of felt is also an option.

With a simple click on your keyboard you can download the original little manual for the round, rectangular or long loom and keep it forever. Just remember to back-up when you update your computer

By the way, the instructions will work for the Darice, Boye, or Loops &Threads or just about any commercially available loom. Most of these have very few variants. They all are just about the same size and have the same number of pegs. Give or take a peg.

The Crocodile Stitch Also Known as the Scallop Stitch

Scarlett Royal is an AMAZING loom knitter. I featured her free stuffed animal patterns and videos earlier this year and the response is still high. Personally, I get at a lost for words about her skill with the loom. When she puts her mind on a task and her hands on her tools she does things like crack the code to create a pattern for THE CROCODILE STITCH on a loom! I am super, uber happy. I have to think that you are too. Needle knitters have had this technique since the invention of dirt. Now so do loom knitters. To make the gift even way better there’s a video tutorial. I can already picture the edges on a poncho or shrug. The creative juices get going when you have such great stuff to work with.

Come Loom with Me – AGAIN

In June I had a diabetic seizure. It was very scary. I had never been diagnosed with diabetes. What’s worst when I had my complete physical exam I found out that I had A LOT of other serious health issues. This surprised me beyond measure. It totally “freaked” me out and its taken me a long time to recover – more mentally than physically.

I apologize for my neglect of this site especially the monthly yarn give-away so many loyal readers were enjoying. I have grown to really appreciate so many of you. I must admit that I felt spoiled with all the compliments, kind words and awesome questions that kept me on my toes.

I am much better now thank God… time for you all to come loom with me – Again !
