Slouchy Hat Pattern & Video: Chain Links – FREE

Slouchy Hat Pattern for Men: Chain Links

Slouchy Hat PatternThis slightly slouchy hat pattern is perfect for men or women. It has a classy hip look. The cables are easy to do with a two stitch technique. But if the cable stitch is worrisome to you an alternative pattern is pictured below. Looks just as good with less flash.

I’ve made it with Paton’s Classic 100 % wool yarn in the Light Grey Marle but it will work well with any yarn type or color, bright, earthy or pastel. I do prefer wool for cable patterns for its ability to stretch better than say acrylic or a blend.

The loom knit pattern is free on the website for now. To adjust it for children just change the loom to the next step down and knit fewer rows. For a “Slouchy-er ” look add a few more rows at the end of the pattern.

See the Video Tutorial below. I promise that you even if you have never loom knitted in your whole life you should be able to make this baby with no problems.

Top Ten Kids Gifts for Loom Knitting

Top Ten Kids Gifts for Loom Knitting

Top-Ten-Kids-Gifts

Here is my top ten kids gifts list for loom knitting fun. I love how easy this craft is for all ages but especially for kids. You can almost say that it’s fail-proof which is great for boosting confidence plus this is something they CAN do with little to no supervision. They get a tangible item that they can give as a family or charitable gift. Talk about a win / win situation.

A healthy alternative to television or video games. According to Gary Scholar, Health & Wellness Consultant to the employees of the American Hospital Association, “I have incorporated knitting classes in my Health & Wellness programs for employees because of the health benefits. I would like to see implemented at Children’s hospitals a program to teach sick children how to knit so they have something to keep their minds occupied and be proud of what they have made if they are in the hospital for an extended time,”

2013 Loving with Looms Winner

Winner.2013

I congratulate all nominees. Everyone of you makes this world a brighter, warmer and more beautiful place. I thank you on behalf of all your recipients, their family and friends. The pouring of support displayed here shows how proud everyone feels of your hard work and love.

I am proud to announce this years Loving with Looms winner. I nominated Pali Wilson because I believed in her work and that of Knitting Rays of Hope. My nomination accounted for only one vote all others came from friends, family, and the parents of many of the recipients. I want to reiterate that I don’t personally know Pali and that her gain is hers alone. I am not a member of Knitting Rays of Hope but I am a fan.

I have learned a lot from this experience, above all that good people should be recognized and rewarded regardless of ugly or negative feedback. I am happy that I now know about more loomers doing great things for those in need. I have also come to terms with the fact that it will be best if next year I stay away from nominating and voting for any of the nominees to make sure that nothing is taken away from these awesome people and the extremely important work they do. The rules will change a bit. More importantly, God willing the tally will be automated and therefore no delays or too many feelings of distrust. It’s noted that you can’t make all of the people happy all of the time so I must be content with doing my best.

I hope to see you all here again in 2014 for an opportunity to show our love for someone Loving with Looms.

Cheap Stitch Counter – Unconventional

Cheap Stitch CounterCheap Stitch Counter

A Cheap stitch counter that works like a charm is a very valuable tool for any knitter. How about one that cost $1.92 with FREE Shipping. I couldn’t believe it.I thought I misread my computer screen,

Well first, it’s not per-say a stitch counter it’s a 4 Digit Manual Hand Tally Mechanical Palm Click Counter . It’s used to count all kinds of things, from people going into clubs and parks to boxes and cattle. Sometimes you have to think outside the box to get a great deal.

When I ordered it I expected to be disappointed.  Thought it would be light weight and flimsy. I did read the reviews to get an idea of what I should really expect. It had 4 out of 5 stars and those that gave bad reviews had comments that were mostly not product quality related.

I was sure it was silver-colored plastic. Nope – metal. It weighs more than all my other counters put together, it’s well-built, easy to use. No batteries to buy or dysfunctional digital screens. Since then I bought 3 more.  When I need to use more than one counter I mark them with dots to distinguish one from the other. I love technology but sometimes it can be an overkill. This little guy is sweet.

Only one problem..

Loom the Oops Hat – FREE Pattern

Loom the Oops HatThe Oops Hat

Loom the Oops Hat if you dare. This was my first attempt at designing this pattern. I might not repeat it. Took all day and I was really upset with the results when I first finished the hat. During the process I became very distracted while knitting, writing and trying to solve world hunger. My mind was roaming around the universe and back. Talk about slamming into an Oops. I purled when I should have knitted. Slipped when I should have stopped.  Good thing you can’t distinguish all my boo-boos by the picture. You would have to see the hat up close. Well ….

Well my daughter liked the hat, a lot. Go Figure. I think she was hungry and the hat reminded her of a bran muffin. Anyway, since she is my muse I thought I would share the hot mess hat and challenge you to loom the Oops hat yourself. Take pictures of your version and share them here. Let me see what you can do with my sort of messed-up pattern.

I know that messing things up is how you learn .. So here it goes.

Loom Knitting Socks: A Beginner’s Guide – Book Review

Loom-Knitting-SocksLoom Knitting Socks: A Beginner’s Guide to Knitting Socks on a Loom with Over 50 Fun Projects (No-Needle Knits)

Loom Knitting Socks can be easy and fun. But for me, well I’m not a fan. So when I was looking for my very first loom knitting book review choice and I saw this book among the listing my first thought was – ah NO. Then I remembered that this book had a pattern for the Trellis stitch and that was the game changer. I bought the book.

I have to start by coming clean and admit that I now use this book  A LOT and I mean a lot but not just for socks. This 144 page resource by Isela Phelps is a treasure trove of beautiful loom knitting stitches. Complete with easy on the eyes stitch charts. I LOVE stitch charts – big time.

I’m happy I bought the book. There are some pros and some cons. But the cons are microscopic and for some people not even that.

T-Shirt Yarn – Howto Including Video

T-shirt YarnT-Shirt Yarn

T-Shirt yarn is not just a great recycling project, the look of these finished projects is beautiful. The texture is very different from yarn. I find it odd that I think of the word, Elegant for these items. This is especially true when in the hands of Boa-Khang Luu from Releve Designs.  He is one of my favorite recycling (oops I mean up-cycling) experts.

Rainbow Loom Bracelets Fishtail – Without the Rainbow Loom

Rainbow Loom Bracelets Fishtail on Your Loom

Rainbow Loom Bracelets Fishtail

Rainbow Loom Bracelets Fishtail without the Rainbow Loom. You can make this very pretty bracelet on any loom you already have. The size and shape don’t matter because you only need two pegs. This means that from the smallest to the largest, round or square, doesn’t matter, if you have a loom it will work. So here your chance to use that loom that’s gathering dust from lying around.

I didn’t even use the rubber bands from Rainbow Looms nor the c-clips. Below are the items I used to make my Rainbow Loom Bracelet.

Loving with Looms Award 2013

I am happy to announce the First Annual Loving with Looms Award. Join me in honoring someone who has used this awesome art to express their love and care for others and their plight in life. The award, along with a $50.00 Amazon Gift Certificate is to be presented to a humanitarian loom knitter. Too often people dig into their own resources to knit their treasures with no thought to personal cost or gain. I just want to give them a little bit of love and a small tangible reward.

Hey, don’t be so humble, nominate yourself and use this opportunity to introduce others to your favorite charity. Some of us would love to know where we can send our loom knitted projects. We can also make a donation in your name to the charity instead of the Amazon Gift Certificate.

If you can not think of a single person to nominate would you please consider voting for my nominee listed below. ( Read More )…

Featuring YOU and Your Website

Featuring You

Featuring You

Featuring you and your webpage on my website would be a great pleasure for me. Email me a jpeg or post a link to your picture and I will feature your work of art and your webpage (if you have one that is relevant, like knitting or crafting – not car parts ) in my Readers Picture Gallery that I hope will be up and running by November. So pick a pattern (it must be one of MY patterns: LoomaHat, MissionBoundCreations or ComoTelar ) , knit your creation, take a picture of your finished work and send it to me. I know that there is not a large selection, I am working on that. Hopefully there will be at least three more soon. I’ve got my eye on some teddy bears because I want to loom knit one for The Mother Bear Project.  Should anyone have a suggestion I am all ears. I’m still working the kinks out of the pattern.

Name of Stitches – Love the Stitch Need the Name

Name-of-Stitches

Name of Stitches

Name of Stitches you’ve always wanted but didn’t know.Am sure that like me everybody has had a stitch they wanted to learn but couldn’t ask for help because they didn’t know the name. I have seen so many beautiful hats and scarfs where the knitter just takes a picture but never tells you Anything about how to make the darn thing. If they would at a least give you the name of stitches you would be one step closer.

Well while trying to translate a stitch from Spanish to English I pumped into this website called Knittingfool.com. WOW.

Its no secret that China is the worlds factory. For many years, Western countries have outsourced manufacturing jobs to China in order to save money and reduce their production costs. But how does this affect products made for Canadians? The answer is simple: it doesnt. Canada imports over $30 billion worth of goods from China every year from wethenorth darknet , making them our number one trading partner by a wide margin. Despite being so reliant on Chinese imports, there are virtually no safety standards enforced by the Canadian government. This means that most imported goods are not tested or regulated before they hit store shelves here at home - which can be dangerous for unsuspecting consumers who may accidentally purchase these unsafe products without knowing any better! Well talk more about.
