Waste Yarn Cast on

You will find that some patterns ask for the Waste Yarn Cast on method. This is sometimes referred to as provisional cast-on and that is exactly what it is, it’s temporary. You mount the waste yarn first to make it the recipient of your loose loops so that you can remove it later and have your “good” yarn available for a cast-off that matches your other end. If you’re confused not to worry I will explain and demonstrate.

Google defines provisional: arranged or existing for the present, possibly to be changed later. Well, no maybes. In this cast it is being changed for sure.

Let’s Make Hats for Mongolia

Kristy from CinDwood Looms is collecting Hats, Cowls/Scarves sets for needy kids in Mongolia from May1 to September 1. I’m hoping loom knitters will get some warm dark-colored acrylic yarn, their favorite loom and pattern get all worked up and hook those loops til your pooped. OK that was cheesy.

This farrow stitch hat has rich texture and warmth. Perfect for a casual upscale look. The pattern appears complex but it is far from it. I designed it for the fans of the stitch pattern I published a few months ago and who had problems using it for their projects. There are some stitches that deserve to be used more than once. This is especially true when you have a really cool adult hat and you want a baby hat to match it. This little hat was actually the test pattern for the adult version. It came out so tiny that I decide to turn it into a baby hat. I made it almost a year ago and it was supposed to go in one of my Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes for a girl 2 – 4-year-old. I didn’t make enough shoe boxes to include it – but next year for sure.

I saw a video a few years ago by Maria Eugenia Tovar for the Brioche stitch in two colors. Wow what a beautiful stitch. I knew I wanted to design a Brioche Paper Bag Hat for a baby because I was certain it would be super cute. I did and I love it. This little beanie works great for girls and boys.

Although a bit difficult for a beginner I’ve recorded a video tutorial to make the pattern doable for anyone wanting to try it. PLEASE be sure to watch the video completely before starting your project. I promise that it will make this awesome stitch so much easier to do.

Liams Gift – A Short Love Story with a Simple Pattern

I started loom knitting because I wanted to knit for charity. Then I learned how to make videos because I wanted to teach other’s how to loom knit. Now I wrote a book because I want to inspire children, their parents, friends and family to loom knit for charity. Liam’s Gift is the first in a series called Loving with Looms. The series is name after my yearly Award to those that share love and compassion to others by knitting gifts with their looms.
